Allstate has released its Best Drivers Report for 2018. This is an annual report that identifies which of the 200 largest U.S. cities and their surrounding suburban metropolitan areas have the safest drivers. Massachusetts has 3 of the top 200 safest driving cities in the country, but they are on the bottom of the list. Springfield is ranked 195, Worcester comes in at 197 and Boston is ranked 199.

The rankings are based on the rate at which Allstate customers in each city report being involved in a collision. The national average for customers experiencing a crash is every 10 years, according to the report. Individuals in Springfield reported getting into an accident every 5.3 years, whereas drivers in Worcester reportedly got into an accident once every 4.4 years.

Last year, Boston ranked 200, so it improved by one spot over the course of the past year. In 2017, Boston drivers reported getting into a car accident every 3.6 years – a number much lower than the national average. This year, Boston natives said they were involved in a collision only every 3.9 years.

If you have been injured in a car accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be able to recover compensation for your harm through a personal injury lawsuit. Negligence arises when an individual who owes a duty to another person fails to exercise a certain degree of care and causes injury to that other person. For example, a driver who causes an accident by running a stop sign would be considered negligent and would be on the hook for any resulting damages. This is because all drivers owe others on the road a duty to drive in a safe manner and a driver using the appropriate degree of care would not run a stop sign, understanding the foreseeable risk of accident associated with such behavior.

Massachusetts’ law follows the doctrine of contributory negligence, under which a plaintiff’s damages are reduced by his or her percentage of fault. In other words, if a plaintiff were partially at fault for an accident, the total damages award would be decreased by that plaintiff’s amount of fault. It is important to note that contributory negligence does not bar recovery, so long as the plaintiff’s negligence is not greater than that of the defendant\’s.
