Wrong-way driver blamed in crash

Filed under: Criminal,Law,Personal injury — Local News @ 2:59 pm

BOSTON – State police have arrested a Reading man who allegedly went the wrong way down a Boston-area highway in a stolen minivan, causing a four-vehicle crash.

State police say they found 48-year-old Richard Saunders on Monday hiding under a vehicle in a Boston neighborhood. They were still looking for a woman they believe was with him.
State police say Saunders was treated for minor injuries. There were no initial reports of other injuries.

State police say that at about noon, a trooper began following a minivan reported stolen out of Medford. They say Saunders fled the wrong way on Route 93 north, where he allegedly caused the crash before leaving the highway in the Neponset area and was located at Port Norfolk.

Police found Saunders about 15 minutes after he was first spotted. State police say Saunders was also wanted in Reading for wrong-way driving.

Saunders remains hospitalized at Boston Medical Center. It’s unclear when he will be arraigned.
