LUDLOW – Four people are in the hospital and a road in Ludlow had to be closed after a car slammed into a utility pole.

This accident happened around 9 p.m. Friday on Cady Street in Ludlow.

The accident damaged a utility pole and caused power lines to fall to the ground.

Police responded by closing Cady Street from Mariana Lane to the Chicopee town line so that Western Mass. Electric crews could take care of the downed lines.

Chicopee Police also blocked traffic access to New Lombard Rd. in Chicopee which leads to Cady Street in Ludlow.

The road was finally reopened around 6:15 a.m. Saturday.

According to a news release sent to 22News, the driver of the car was 24-year-old Barry Davis of Springfield.

Davis apparently has a suspended Massachusetts drivers license.

According to Ludlow Police Sergeant Daniel Valadas, a preliminary investigation indicates Davis was speeding and driving recklessly and could face criminal charges.

All four passengers, including the driver went to Baystate Medical Center.

There is no word yet on the condition of the car’s passengers.
