Lee Crash sends one to BMC

Filed under: Law,Personal injury — Local News @ 3:23 am

LEE — A Connecticut woman escaped serious injury, following a car-truck crash on Route 20 late Sunday morning, local police said.

Barbara Henry, 84, from Avon, Conn., was attempting a left-hand turn onto the highway from Maple Street shortly before noontime, when a tractor trailer cab traveling west on Route 20 slammed into the driver’s side of Henry’s 2002 Honda Accord.

The impact of the crash pinned the woman in her vehicle, and Lee firefighters had to use the “Jaws of Life” to pry her from the wreckage, according to police. Henry suffered leg injuries and was taken to Berkshire Medical Center, where she was admitted and listed in stable condition, hospital officials said.

The trucker, James Payne of Southington, Conn., wasn’t hurt. He was driving for a long-distance hauler, Werner Enterprises.

The cause of the crash, which occurred about a mile east of Exit 2 of the Massachusetts Turnpike, remains under investigation.
